Competent English/ English language proficiency

Functional English:

One of the following:

• IELTS test -  An average band score of at least 4.5 based on the 4 test components or equivalent (in the 3 years before you applied for the visa)
• Citizen of and passport holder of UK, USA, Canada, NZ and Ireland.
• English has been assessed as functional by an Australian Adult Migrant English Program service provider
• Completed a degree, a higher degree, a diploma or a trade certificate in an institution in or outside Australia that required at least 2 years of full-time study and all instructions were in English
• At least 1 year FT study or equivalent PT in Australia where all the instructions were in English OR at least 5 years of a secondary school study in or outside Australia where all instructions were in English OR all years of primary and at least 3 years of secondary school study where all instructions were in English in or outside Australia.

Vocational English:

• Citizen of and passport holder of UK, USA, Canada, NZ and Ireland.
• IELTS test -  At least 5 for each of the 4 test components or equivalent (in the 3 years before you applied for the visa)

Competent English:

• Citizen of and passport holder of UK, USA, Canada, NZ and Ireland.
• IELTS test -  At least 6 for each of the 4 test components or equivalent (in the 3 years before you applied for the visa)

Proficient English:

• IELTS test -  At least 7 for each of the 4 test components or equivalent (in the 3 years before invitation to apply for the visa)

Superior English:

• IELTS test -  At least 8 for each of the 4 test components or equivalent (in the 3 years before invitation to apply for the visa)

Tertiary qualifications – degrees, graduate certificates, graduate diplomas NOT accepted certificates, Senior Secondary Certificate of Education
