PTE CONCORDANCE REPORT

Pearson PTE has recently released a report that has reassessed the concordance between PTE English language scores and those of the IELTS scores.

PTE has adjusted some scores to better align with the IELTS standard scores. Those who are aiming for 20 points for migration scoring 79 in each band in PTE (equivalent to 8 in each band in IELTS) will need to score 84. However for people aiming for 50 in PTE (equivalent to 6 in IELTS), they will only need to score 46.

These changes have been reported to the Governments of Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, all of who accept PTE English language tests for migration purposes.

However, until a new legislative instrument is released on changing the scores, the currently legislated scores will remain in force.

Nevertheless, the MIA would not expect retrospective changes to the scores for applications lodged before any changes are implemented. Members should also remember that it often takes a considerable amount of time for new legislation to be drafted and released.
